PEIYUAN JIANG 姜培源

(b.1983, CN)

Peiyuan Jiang is a painter based in China. Jiang’s recent works explore painting using acrylic pigments and acrylic mediums as materials and themes. His practice emphasizes the materiality of painting materials as well as the process, methods, and attitudes of image production. The TPS (Transparent Paint Skin) series deconstructs the relationship structure between pigment layers and supports by collaging pre-made transparent paint skins on canvas, thus destabilizing and reconstructing "painting" as both a noun describing pigment surfaces and a verb representing the process of painting. This process brings about a completely new visual experience and expands the conceptual scope of painting.

Jiang Graduated from Chelsea college of art at the University of Arts London with an MA in Fine Art. Jiang has been widely selected of numerous awards and artist residencies including the Swatch Art Peace Hotel residency in Shanghai (2019), the Chris Wainwright Award in Beijing Today Art Museum(2012), John Moores Painting Prize 2012 (China), Bloomberg New Contemporaries (2009), Jerwood Drawing Prize (2009), Whisper Residency in Chinese Art Centre Manchester (2009), BP young artist award in National Portrait Gallery (2008), He has been widely exhibited in many museums including AMNUA, Nanjing. Today art museum, Beijing.  Shanghai oil painting & sculpture institute. National Portrait Gallery, London. Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Wolverhampton. Aberdeen Art Gallery, Scotland. Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Wales.
